Documentary Wedding Photography

Timeless Storytelling Through Candid, Documentary Wedding Photography

In addition to my classic and modern wedding photography, I have a deep love for capturing weddings in an organic, candid, and documentary style.

Every couple has a unique story—and every wedding day tells one of the most meaningful and beautiful stories of all. When I photograph in a documentary style, I step into the role of a visual storyteller—your personal photojournalist—quietly observing and capturing the real, unscripted moments as they naturally unfold. From quiet glances and joyful tears to spontaneous laughter and warm embraces, these are the memories that truly matter.

All of my couples receive their full wedding gallery in both color and black and white, but there’s something undeniably powerful about black and white imagery. It strips away distraction and highlights the emotion, connection, and truth of each moment. That’s why I’ve chosen to showcase my documentary wedding gallery entirely in timeless black and white—to let the story shine.

If you're drawn to authentic, emotion-filled photography that reflects the heart of your day, this might be the perfect style for you.

Vermont Genuine & Natural Documentary Wedding Photography

Honest, Heartfelt Storytelling Through Documentary Wedding Photography

Documentary wedding photography is more than just snapping a few candid shots—it's the art of storytelling through a series of authentic, emotional images that capture the true essence of your wedding day. As a Vermont-based documentary and fine art wedding photographer, I specialize in capturing genuine moments as they unfold—unscripted, emotional, and deeply personal—while also creating a few breathtaking editorial-style portraits worthy of a magazine spread (unless you request otherwise!).

Of course, we’ll set aside time for the formal family portraits and a relaxed romantic session, but for most of the day, I work quietly in the background, allowing your story to unfold naturally. In fact, one of the things I hear most from couples is, “We didn’t even notice you were there!” — and that’s exactly the point.

Even during the formal photos, I use gentle prompts and playful direction to encourage natural interaction—never stiff poses. For instance, I might say, “John, give Mary a kiss on the cheek,” followed by, “Mary, don’t let him!” or on a more tender note, “Mary, what is it about John that makes you feel safe?” These little cues help you forget the camera is there and bring out real emotions.

Documentary wedding photography is about capturing the entire emotional arc of your day—from the quiet anticipation of getting ready, to the laughter and joy of your ceremony, to the epic dance floor moments you’ll never forget. Every moment matters, and your final gallery will reflect the full, unscripted beauty of your celebration.
