Vow Renewal in Woodstock, VT

Vow Renewal at the Woodstock Inn and Resort, Woodstock, Vermont

After ten wonderful years together, Ellen and Richard decided to have a romantic vow renewal in beautiful Woodstock, Vermont. They chose The Woodstock Inn and Resort as their venue and the ceremony was held in the front garden on a bright and sunny autumn day.

  • officiant:  Annie Alexander-Kramer The Parsonne
  • flowers:   Jasper & Prudence Floral and Events, Woodstock, VT
  • hair and make-up: April at Splendid Chaos, Woodstock, VT
  • photographer: Sally Carpenter
  • venue: The Woodstock Inn and Resort, Woodstock, VT

In keeping with the Vermont Covid guidelines, masks were worn when outdoor social distancing was not possible and the "wedding style" masks, Ellen found were just adorable. I also thought the matching bowtie and pocket square was a stylish addition and the boutonniere by Jasper & Prudence coordinated perfectly with the entire "look".

Ellen wanted to do a "first look" which is always so fun to photograph and becoming very popular with my Vermont wedding and elopement couples. The garden in the front of the inn was carpeted with golden leaves and made the perfect location for not only the first look but the ceremony as well.

After the first look, Ellen and Richard had a very quick romance session before the vow renewal ceremony and I also took a few photos of Ellen in her beautiful wedding dress and cape. She certainly knows her wedding style and her dress was spectacular, the fir trimmed cape added an even more classical and formal look and I really enjoyed photographing her. Unfortunately because of the Covid mandate, I was not able to capture her getting ready photos, or take any inside The Woodstock Inn but we did get some beautiful bridal portraits outside in both the front and shaded back garden.

The ceremony was lovely and it is so heart warming to see two people, so in love after ten years of marriage, celebrating that love with a vow renewal. Ellen was hoping some leaves might fall during the ceremony and that they did!

After the ceremony we walked around the front garden and took some more formal and detail wedding photos, the pumpkins were a great "prop" and the autumn light was just beautiful. Even though foliage was just about over, there was still plenty of color around.

Since Ellen wanted some romance photos with falling leaves, we did a little improvising. Annie threw them up for some photographs and Richard threw them for some others.

After we took some photos in the front garden of the inn, we walked around to the back area and continued the romance photo session where there was some shade before Ellen and Richard hearded back inside for their romantic dinner and champagne toasts.

What Is A Vow Renewal? A vow renewal is an opportunity for a couple to renew the vows that they made to each other when they first got married. It is a way to commemorate a love that has deepened or matured between a couple. Simply put, it is a way to celebrate your marriage. Perhaps you've made it to 2, 5, 10, 25 or 50 years together and you want the world to know you'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. There's no wrong reason to renew.

Another alternative to a vow renewal is a wedding blessing. This is usually done for family members and friends who were not able to attend the original wedding for whatever reason. Here is a link to a wedding blessing I photographed in the UK. The original wedding was in NOLA but since the groom was from the UK, he had a blessing in the village he grew up in so friends and other family members who were not able to fly to NOLA could share his love and meet his new bride.  UK wedding blessing
